The tech world is buzzing with excitement as modular computer company, Framework, announces its latest creation – the Framework Desktop. This innovative desktop PC not only boasts impressive specs but also offers a unique customizable design that straddles the line between cute and badass.
At just 4.5 liters in size, this tiny mini-ITX PC packs a punch with AMD’s most powerful APU yet, the Strix Halo. With up to 128GB of unified LPDDR5x memory and impressive gaming capabilities, it’s no wonder why people are raving about it.
But what sets this desktop apart from others on the market? Well, for starters, you can create your own front panel using 21 interchangeable tiles that are freely 3D printable. Plus, you get to choose two front I/O ports and there’s even an optional LAN party carry handle for easy transport.
However, don’t expect to find any memory slots as they’re soldered onto the motherboard. But according to Framework, this was necessary in order to achieve high throughput with its 256-bit memory bus.
We got a sneak peek at this revolutionary desktop at Framework’s event in San Francisco and we were blown away by its performance. Not only is it smaller than a PS5 or Xbox Series X but it also runs cooler and quieter thanks to its custom thermal system co-developed by Cooler Master and Noctua.
And let’s talk about those specs! The Framework Desktop features an onboard 5Gbps Ethernet port along with two USB4 ports, two DisplayPort outputs, one HDMI port, dual M.2 NVMe SSD slots (up to 16TB of storage!), Wi-Fi7 module, and more. Plus, you get full-size USB-A ports and headphone jack at the rear for added convenience.
But what really caught our attention was the build process, which involves magnetic panels and folding thumbscrews for easy assembly. And thanks to its compact size, it’s perfect for LAN parties or on-the-go gaming.
Speaking of gaming, we were able to run and configure Cyberpunk 2077 at native 1440p resolution with impressive results. With the top-end Ryzen AI Max 395 Plus chip running at full power, we achieved a low of 60fps and an average of over 70fps – not bad for a mini-PC!
And if you’re worried about breaking the bank, don’t be. The prices for these desktops are surprisingly reasonable considering their specs. You can get a top-of-the-line model with 16 CPU cores, 40 graphics cores, and 128GB of RAM for just $1,999 (not including storage or OS). Or opt for a more budget-friendly option starting at $1,099.
Ready to experience the power and style of the Framework Desktop? Pre-orders are now available with shipping planned for Q3. And that’s not all – Framework also announced a new AMD-powered version of their Framework Laptop today as well as their first budget laptop with touch screen capabilities. Stay tuned for our hands-on impressions coming soon!
